It’s not difficult for me to imagine my Heavenly Father building a home for me; Pop designed and built one on earth. His great sense of humor and fun would eventually override his Germanic authoritarianism. His orderliness of thought and tools modeled for me much-needed discipline. And his teaching me chords & our playing piano together is a gift right up there with Mother’s milk. We had great discussions, talking seriously about ideas. When I was still small, he once asked me: “Vinnie, tell me, which do you think you are: an artist who creates or one who interprets?” God gave me a father who asked such questions!
At age 77 Daddy became a believing Christian ; with tears in his eyes he said: “Vin, why didn’t I know about this sooner?” He passed in 1987.
Knowing Dad’s pioneering spirit & enthusiasm, I’m looking forward to
learning how the Lord is using the creative, administrative
skill He gave to Pop as He establishes all the Branches of
His Heavenly Kingdom on Earth.
Thanks, Pop – after more than 20 years, your trademark is still:
Generous Love.
Dad – born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1909 –(the music playing with this, ‘Cutter- A Classy Rag’ was written in 1909) My dad’s mother died when he was 6 and his father when he was 12. As an orphan, he could have been trapped by circumstances, but Providence was merciful and Pop made wise choices. He graduated from Penn State (then) College in 1931 and ultimately served the University by establishing the system of Commonwealth
( branch ) Campuses for the state of Pennsylvania.
